Alderney - Channel Islands in the Bailiwick of Guernsey

Alderney is a very green environment and the property is on a quiet road well sheltered from wind. It's within walking distance of the main food supermarket which stocks a delicious selection from basics to luxuries. The main shopping street includes two butchers and a fishmonger and everything you need is available on the island. The place has a rich cultural life with tennis, music societies, wine tasting groups, a history society, museum, good library, golf and flying clubs. There's lots to interest everyone within the community and the self governing States of Alderney provides active political entertainment. The campanologists are a lively crowd who go off to ring the towers on Guernsey every month. Most importantly, moving here can free you from burdensome tax regimes which, with the increasing level of national debts of EU countries will only get worse. From this point of view buying Alderney property is always a safe investment.

GETTING TO ALDERNEY

There are frequent flights with Aurigny and Blue Islands to and from neighbouring Guernsey

and the airport is a real refreshing joy compared to all others you're likely to have seen. Until recently a flock of chickens greeted you at the end of the airport road. This video shows "Departures":

Other distinations include Bournemouth, Southampton, Dinard and a whole host of destinations from Guernsey.
Living on the island is great fun. It's a place where life is what you make of it, but there are sports facilities, a state and a private prep school, cinema where the local pub opposite serves drinks in the interval and a bell rings in the pub when the film is about to start again, music societies, wildlife preservation societies, a history group, wine tasting and historic film groups, campanologists who ring weekly on the island and tour the towers in Guernsey once a month, jazz groups and a whole host of other activities. Wikipedia gives a good introduction to the island.

Local politics is interesting and the island is at the forefront of tidal electricity generation. It's a place where life is so interesting that you're unlikely to go senile and if you don't do your daily walk up the high street to buy your loaf of bread, someone will notice that you're missing. It's a friendly community of about 2500 population and one pub offers "creche" services for husbands when their wives want to get them out of the way - people have a sense of humour! The vendor's Dad has retired to Alderney and the vendor's family enjoy their visits. It's a good place to have flying lessons and in the summer, beaches are uncrowded and young people have "bunker parties". So there's fun for young and old. The vendor has another 2 bedroom house which they use as a pied de terre on the island which they may sell as well as this one to buy another. If you're interested in the 2 bedroom house for £250,000 - please enquire.
